The Truth About Masks

THE TRUTH ABOUT MASKS

To mask or not to mask, that is the question. Large retailers require masks, some have backed down. Some states require masks and some don’t. The President of the United States sometimes wears a mask in public, but most of the time, he doesn’t. Plus, the type and quality of a mask is not mandated, and unfortunately, the wearing of masks has become yet another dividing point in America. What are we to do? Well, in keeping with my blog’s intent, we are going to focus on truth and on what we can control and not on what we can’t control.

Let me be the first to say that it bothers me a lot. I have walked out of stores, restaurants and, as I mentioned in my last blog, from a state park because I will not wear a mask. In the stores that allow me in, I am the ONLY person not wearing a mask. It is uncomfortable as you can imagine. I will explain why a little later.

First, the facts: Masks don’t work, they don’t protect you or others from Covid-19. The actual, factual, unbiased, medical studies of masks BEFORE THE PANDEMIC show little or no benefit of wearing masks to prevent transmission of influenza, respiratory illnesses or even the common cold. https://www.rcreader.com/commentary/masks-dont-work-covid-a-review-of-science-relevant-to-covide-19-social-policy

This one link summarizes and links to 7 scientific / medical studies from 2009 to February 2020. They all conclude there is no statistically significant differences in preventing air borne viral infections or respiratory viral infections. And, these same studies include N95 masks. The average home-made mask, free paper masks, etc. are far less likely to be effective than N95 masks, don’t you think? Yet, the current mask mandates allow these types of masks along with N95 masks with no distinction. Do you think it’s possible that the reason is that those in authority know the masks don’t work so it does not matter what kind of mask you wear? Let’s keep using common sense as noted in my previous blog.

Common sense would indicate that requiring anyone to wear a mask should be based on actual, widely accepted scientific / medical studies and such studies would warrant a particular quality of mask as the minimum standard. But that is not the case.

This brings me to my second point, “the false narrative.” If you do an internet search related to wearing masks for protection, read the results carefully. An M.D. friend of mine who does medical research all the time showed me what is actually being said:

> The articles proclaim theory or opinions and not actual medical studies. And they certainly do not mention actual medical studies widely proclaimed prior to Covid-19, as I did above.

> Actual mask studies related to protection from virus transmission that were done prior to 2020, are sound and accepted in the scientific community (or they were) and are large studies and they are not being referenced. Statements like the following are common:

o “mask may help limit the spread…”

o “professionals believe that mask wearing and social distancing…”

o “masks provide good protection…”

o “masks are helpful, but not perfect…”

o “study suggesting that masks helped…”

These terms are vague to protect from lawsuits because why? Not true or no credible basis is my guess. Why do you think?

> The one or two “studies” offered are observational and grossly restricted in their environment. If you really care about science, compare the medical studies prior to 2020 and the ones being used as “support” now. Look at the number of people and quality of the tests and the doctors commenting. I think you will see a big difference.

As I promised, this blog is to help us with what we can control, what we can do in the here and now. As I said, this is not easy for me and I have altered my life to not go along with the “narrative” which is so widely accepted. In fact, most people that wear masks do so to keep life moving with the least hassle. I get that.

My #1 problem with masks is not that people wear them. It is that people are forced to wear them and not based on their free choice. Freedom of choice is taken away and done so by governors and mayors (not the law makers) who are forcing people to wear them. It is not a free choice. And the penalties and threats against businesses and people are also being forced on us without due legal process. If actual law makers (legislators) such as senators, congressmen, house representatives, etc. convened and made these laws, at least it would be constitutional. But we have the executive branch of government (governors, mayors) making the laws, the penalties and enforcing them. This is BAD.

The unconstitutional manner of this is based on the “emergency” powers granted to them. But, think about it:

> Emergency powers are generally from 30 to 60 days. That is long gone.

> The emergency was to protect the health system from overload. It’s behind us.

> The medical science to wear masks is false. Studies show almost no benefit, as documented above.

> No subsequent legislature convening to approve, extend or rescind the mask mandates has been done, even into the 6th month of the “emergency”.

Please follow me on this: Hundreds of thousands to over a million military people have died to defend our Constitution which guarantees all of us Americans freedom from Government tyranny. I don’t wear a mask to honor the dead men and women who gave their life in war to keep us free. I did not have to storm a beach in France with almost certain death from Nazi machine gun fire but I can at least remember those who did and died by not wearing a mask forced on me by politicians making unconstitutional laws that are not necessary or even helpful.

Military strategy #1. “Divide and conquer.” My advice to all of us is we stay united as Americans. If you wear a mask, fine. I will grant you your right to make a free choice. But I ask that you do the same for me who will not wear a mask. I want to stay united with you all, but I do not want to give an inch to politicians who will do anything to take away our freedom to have more domineering government.

Take Aways:

· Mask wearing has no medical or scientific basis to stop the spread of Covid-19.

o What will protect you is in my “How to Stay healthy” blog.

· We should make free choices and respect each other’s free choice.

· Government needs to be accountable to the Constitution of the United States.

· We need to stay united as Americans! “United we stand, divided we fall.”
